MARILYN

Hi! Welcome to my blog.

For many years (too many to mention!) I worked as a registered nurse with qualifications in a number of specialties in this great country of Australia. For the last sixteen years I worked as the Infection Control Area Nurse Manager/Consultant in an area health service overseeing four busy hospitals writing policies, educating staff, collating and following up on infection rates, resolving hospital outbreaks and providing consultation in all departments where infection risks existed. And the great thing I can say about this is, that there is light at the end of the tunnel when retirement presents itself!

Prior to my retirement we (my husband and I) moved to a very special part of the world, the Quiet Side of the Great Lake! That lake is Tuggerah Lake, on the Central Coast of New South Wales. I call it the Quiet Side in deference to the busier side of the lake, which lies on the coast of the Pacific Ocean where the lake empties into the sea.

It was like being led to “green pastures and beside still waters”. A peaceful place. A beautiful place! It is like being on holidays every day of the year.

Our specific location is also deemed a ‘bird sanctuary’, frequented by all sorts of birds, many species of water birds and the garden variety. Some of the birds visit on a yearly basis some travelling as far away as Alaska. To watch them living life, raising their chicks, interacting with one another while steering clear of the local domestic pets, facing trials as they struggle through storms and floods (it happens at times) is inspiring and life enriching. There is an order to their lives very similar to our own. Those who live along the lake shore also really care about the bird life.  As a result, as in the Tales from a Lake stories, we do all ‘look out for each other!

It is from this environment, Tales from a Lake was born.
